MARS Business Intelligence and Reporting

MARS empowers the people at Keck Medicine of USC to gain performance insights with ease using Business Intelligence tools that emphasizes user involvement in report generation. Through the concept of "self-service BI", MARS users are free to explore the business data environment on their own schedule and are rewarded in real time with data necessary to make fact-based decisions. MARS users are able to:

  • Query millions of records spanning a decade of operations, in seconds
  • Drill to detail to find and isolate root causes
  • Spend time analyzing data (not gathering, cleansing and formatting it)
  • Foster a culture of insight and accountability amongst their peers
  • Track performance through daily data updates
  • Create (and share) custom reports that refresh automatically, knowing everyone is looking at same dataset
  • Set up automated report subscriptions for hundreds of individual recipients (such as providers, billers, collectors, etc.)

Excel Reports

Excel Reports allow you to create custom reports using any data point in the MARS reporting system. Custom reports allow you to slice and dice data along standard organization dimensions (such as Department, FSC, etc.) using standard pivot table functionality, allowing you to drill to detail or create a report that meets your specific needs. Once the report is created, it can easily be refreshed to include the latest data.
Excel Reports provide several advantages, namely:

  • Reports conform to well-known university reporting methodologies and follow standard analytic paths.
  • Reports allow advanced users to download copies of Excel workbooks for direct manupulation on their own computers.
  • Users can pattern their own reports after existing vetted reports.
  • Reports encourage visibility into and broad understanding of operational metrics.

Standard Reports

Standard Reports allow you to view detailed reports that are best used for printing right from your browser or conversion to PDF. The formats used for standard reports are not modifyable by the users but do offer a high level of fidelity when printed directly from the browser or received in email as a PDF attachment.

Standard Reports are best used for:

  • Printing detailed reports directly from the browser for distribution without time-consuming modification.
  • Subscribing to a report allows for automatic delivery when report is released or updated.
  • Exporting of report snapshots to PDF, CSV (comma delimited) formats.
  • Automated report generation removes tedious manual (and time-consuming) analyst intervention.
